Most new handymen (and many experienced handymen) don’t know what to base their prices on or how much to charge. Many will ask what others are charging and then follow their lead. I know I didn’t know the answers to these questions when I started. I just took my best guess and ran with it, which cost me a lot of money for several years.

#2 – Fear of being too expensive or losing customers

This is a massive problem if you are just getting started or don’t have many new leads calling you.

I remember when I started my business, and each time a potential customer called me, I felt like I had to get that job at all costs. I assumed that if I charged too much, I would lose that customer – and potentially even gain a bad reputation for trying to rip people off.

Now, I look back and see that mindset as being silly because if you aren’t charging enough to generate a decent profit, there is no point in being in business. It’s funny how fear can make us do irrational things.

Does this program come with a price list for common services?

No, I don’t believe in price lists. If I created a price list, it would cause some to overcharge and some to undercharge. I’ve tried many price lists in the past and found them useless. The first problem is that there are too many jobs out there. You can never fit them all on a price list. The second problem is that jobs vary way too much.
